The ship has landed
Living in VA for the greater part of my early Dead years I attended many Hampton shows, in fact my first show was the opening spring show in Hampton '85...the point is this...even though this is not the best Hampton show I saw (second Warlocks show Fall 89), it is still rockin'. The boys might not have been "into it" but they still could blow the roof off the joint. It has been 20 years and I still get the goosebumps listening to this show...Thanks Boys!

Cool down
Well these shows were quite a cool down from Hampton 1989. Fun but man we kind of wondered why they put us through the trouble of being so secretive about them when they ended up being so mediocre. This Corinna is not bad.
By the way Dan, Hornsby was a member of the Grateful Dead through the end of this tour so this one was not a drop in like the JGB Hampton show the year before.

docks of the RIVER
YES! that corrina did reach out and get me freaking out -during the JAM listen for Garcia hitting these octave blasts -I remember that exact moment, and where I was in the hallways, and the smiles I was looking at, and the jolts of musical bliss that went through me. But it is this Wharf Rat that rocked me- as well as being a great one,i specifically hearing Garcia sing the original "way down down...down by the docks of the river" that Hunter wrote. And that was the way he sung it at the first time played 2.18.71 portchester. That's my quick in-put. The shows in the south east around this era when the G.D. came fairly close to Bruce's home and he'd decide to come out and energize the band and the music were exciting and usually GREAT. A decent 3 to 3 1/2 audience recording. the boominess of that venue made hot audiences tough. my master tapes probably sound exactly the same-but I haven't busted open my G.D. trunk in years. The Bird Song is well above average and jazzy. 4 to 4 1/2 star performance

Out There
The title of this review is play on words of sorts. (See my review from the previous night.) I was so shattered from the previous night that I proceeded to get completely RIPPED this night. All I really remember was that A)the Hampton Colesium is the COOLEST SPACESHIP I've ever been on, B)this Red Head that I had falled in love with standing in line for tickets to these Kamikaze Shows was nowhere to be found (saw her in CA later that year, making out w/ her boyfriend...)C) the Least Energetic 'Truckin' I'd heard. (Or have heard to date.) I mean - I **TRIED** to dance - nothing there. D) Ah HA!! Believe it or not - I was an 'Early Adopter' of Corinna. It was still pretty disjointed and gangly at this point, but the music at the end of it was the first thing the band had played in two days where it actually seemed like they were Interested in the music, not just going through the motions. It made me excited for the future of the band.
